About

I’m very pleased to welcome you to my blog, Searching for Sugar Plums.  I have a passion for food, home, and garden, and though I still have much to learn, I am so excited to share my most loved recipes and tips with you.   I love being creative in the kitchen, and am constantly being inspired by flavours from around the world, or even from different time periods.  I value simple things like lazy afternoons, being outside, sipping tea with a good book, and shopping at the farmer’s market where I can admire all the bountiful harvest (not to mention the fresh out of the oven baked goods!).  I use seasonal, local ingredients whenever I can, and want my everyday cooking to be practical, economical, and nourishing.  However, it’s also important to me to slow down a little and turn ordinary moments into celebrations when I can, and that is why this blog is called Searching for Sugar Plums.

When I think of sugar plums, I just think of good things in general.  I think of sweets, amazing discoveries, happy surprises, even flowers blooming in the garden.  To me, sugar plums represent those nice things in life that are so good they feel special.  Searching for sugar plums is about cultivating all the good things I can think of, even stuff that might normally be reserved for children’s fanciful dreams.  If I want to sprinkle flower petals on my cakes and a little fairy dust in my stews, why not?  I grew up believing in fairies, and every day felt magical.  I was excited just getting up in the morning.  As silly as it may be, I miss that feeling and want more of those feelings of wonder in my life.  If I can step out of the old humdrum routine and create something that inspires me and feels special even just once a week, then this blog will be more than worth having.

I truly hope that you enjoy your visit, and my wish is that tonight, dear reader, you too may have sugar plums dancing in your head!
